There's a classic term for that kind of emotional button-pushing: argumentum ad hominem. Unfortunately, the term is now misused, almost universally, for distrusting people who have a record of unreliability. The latter is actually not a logical error, though habitually unreliable people would have you believe it is. If you don't believe me, don't bother to tell me until you look it up.
