Thanks, Stefan, Diatrima, Tania, Paula, Bruce, Patrick, Soon Lee, abi,
Lee, dcb, Mary, Fragano, kouredios, Trip, Lexica, Marilee, Carol, and
anyone I overlooked, and anyone who sympathized silently.

I'm trying not to blame myself.  Next time I'll make sure of the
consequences if I have to kill a cat who is hospitalized and they
ask me if I'd like to see him.  From the delay and his condition, I
strongly suspect they cleaned him up for me, adding just that much
more pain to his final moments.  I'm sure they meant well, but it
didn't give either of us any comfort.  That's just a cautionary tale
for anyone who might be in such a position.

"If I can come to see him when you do it, I'd appreciate that.  If
you can't permit that--if you have to get him out of his cage and
bring him to me--then don't, just kill him as kindly as you can."
