"Xenogenesis" appeared in the August, 1990 issue of _Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine_ the cover has an elephant with pink membranes. The essay consists mostly of his October, 1984 GoH speech at Westercon 37. It is a collection of stories of the ways that fans have mistreated SF professionals, mostly reponses to his solicitation of such stories and his personal experiences. Like a lot of Ellison, it teeters on the edge between aggrieved complaints against people who have victimized him and mean-spirited vindictiveness toward people who have not shown him the respect he considers appropriate. There was a lot of discussion of it in sf-lovers, starting in about June, 1990; perhaps you can get it from the archives. Dan Hoey@AIC.NRL.Navy.Mil
