Brett fails to understand the picture because Tim's drawing is
mangled.  Perhaps he tried to draw it with a proportional font.  But
it seems Tim's drawing is supposed to be of a solid "y" pentomino:
five cubes assembled flat in the following pattern:
  _
 |_|_
 |_|_|
 |_|
 |_|

I don't know how to assemble 25 of these into a 5x5x5 cube, or even
whether it can be done.  I also don't know if this is the problem
David had in mind.
