MINUTES

Meeting of November 5, 1982

At Gilliland's, Rosa Oliver presiding. The meeting was called to its senses at 9:18:09. The minutes were approved as read. The Treasury stood (reclined?) at $5,491.41. More money will be coming from Disclave.

COMMITTEES:

PUBLICATIONS: The December Journal will have an address list of paid-up members only.

ENTERTAINMENT: The Arlington Planetarium has a show based on an Asimov story. The Solstice Dinner will be Saturday, December 18 at Gilliland's; the Tree Trim will be Friday, December 17 at Gilliland's. The first meeting in December will be at Oliver's, and the second meeting at Gilliland's! Sign up for the dinner with Doll; the club will provide the turkey and beverages. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, 15 WSFAns saw Clam Chowder at the Utopia, and Dark Crystal starts December 17.

D'UDDERCLAVE: Hotel cards were passed out. (Or is that "cards were passed out in the hotel"?)

OLD BUSINESS: Again, no one could come up with anything.

NEW BUSINESS: Still nothing.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

  1. Don't give out Smof Central's phone number for Worldcon information!!!
  2. Where will the Fifth Friday/New Year's Eve party be? Smof Central volunteered, but the suggestion was made that maybe the party should be in Washington this year. We'll decide at the next meeting.
  3. Dave Bischoff had a car accident with Thurgood Marshall - it was Marshall's fault.
  4. Kathy Sands broke her ankle and is in the hospital; the club sent an Alexis Gilliland original get-well card.
  5. Vicki Smith is still awake after three days of taking the CPA exam.
  6. Balticon has 311 members - that's 20% full. Better register soon!

The meeting collapsed into hysteria at 9:38:25 PM.

Meeting of November 19, 1982

At Oliver's, Rosa Oliver presiding. The meeting reluctantly assembled at more or less 9:17 PM (the president didn't have her watch on). The minutes were approved as mumbled. The Treasury stood and saluted at $5,233.93.

ENTERTAINMENT: The Last Unicorn (animated) is showing at Springfield Mall; how about a movie party for December 5?

DISCLAVE '82: Will turn over the money before Christmas (of what year?).

DISCLAVE '83: Alan wants money!

DISCLAVE '84: We're ready to sign the contract.

OLD BUSINESS: (FINALLY!) Where-to-have-the Fifth Friday/New Year's Eve party? We had another volunteer, and the club voted to hold the party at Dalroy Ward and Charlie Ellis' place. (Editor's Note: that's the way they told me to word it...)

NEW BUSINESS: (Wow, two in a row!) A motion to encumber up to $2,000 out of the WSFA Treasury for Disclave '83 passed. A motion to hold a movie party on December 5 for The Last Unicorn passed.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

  1. It was Bob Oliver's 43rd birthday. There was ice cream and cake (yes, he blew out all the candles, and the club groaned its way through "Happy Birthday").
  2. Reminder that the first meeting in December will be at Oliver's, and the second meeting will be the Tree Trim at Gilliland's. The Solstice Dinner will be December 18 at Gilliland's; sign up with Doll.
  3. The old cat died, and Gilliland's have a new kitten.
  4. Bill Berg is in the hospital; he stepped on a thumbtack. The club sent an Alexis Gilliland original get-well card.
  5. The Empire is Striking Back again.
  6. The Coast Guard says that Tom Schaad has to move to Governor's Island, New York in January (sorry to lose you, Tom and Marianne).
  7. Karen Anderson (Mrs. Poul) is here.
  8. Mike Walsh is still unemployed.
  9. The Pirates of Rosinante is out; Scott had copies for sale from White Hart.
  10. The SCA's Seventh Day of Christmas celebration (fancy ball) will be New Year's Eve.
  11. Dick Preston will try again next August to hold his teachers' con.
  12. Atari is getting into D&D and is running a contest.
  13. The project that Steve Smith is working on for his job is on the cover of the December issue of Defense Electronics.
  14. WACO will send a mailing after Christmas for Brave New Con; they've decided to lower prices a bit.

The meeting decided to go gorge on cake and ice cream somewhere in the vicinity of 9:50 PM.
