WSFA MINUTES

Meeting of November 4, 1983; at Gillilands', Alexis Gilliland presiding.

The meeting was called to order at 9:15. As the November WSFA Journal vas at band, it was decided to waive reading the minutes. Also, the secretary asked that everyone whose name and address were not listed in the June Journal to please write it down on the June list so it can be included in the December Xmas list. The treasury stood at $6,987.21.

Committees

MEMBERSHIP: Four new members joined: Allan C. Lane, Elizabeth Rosenberg, Michael Antonio Oliveri and Terry L. McCune. (See new Address List)

PUBLICATIONS: The November WSFA Journal was passed out.

ENTERTAINMENT:

Doll reminded everybody that on Sunday, November 6th, we have movie party to go view "The Right Stuff". Give Alexis your $1.00 and be there between 12:30 and 12:45; the film starts at 1:00 P.M. at the Springfield Mall Cinema 1.
She then noted that the First Friday Meeting in December will be at the Olivers' due to the fact that the Third Friday meeting is also the Tree Trim Party which will be held, as usual, at the Gillilands', as will the Solstice Dinner on the following day. Those of you planning on attending the dinner, please tell Dolly in advance what you'll be bringing either before or at the December First Friday Meeting. And, bring an ornament for the Friday Tree Trim Party.

DISCLAVE '84: Registrar Beverly Brandt announced that she's now selling $5 memberships.

OLD BUSINESS: Elections for 1985 Disclave Chairman were held; nominated were Mike Walsh and Kent Bloom. Final results: 18 to 11, Mike Walsh won.

NEW BUSINESS: Lee Smoire volunteered her abode for the New Year's Eve party. Due to the fact that there is a Fifth Friday Party the Night BEFORE New Year's Eve, Chairman Gilliland decided - after a long discussion - that Lee hold the Fifth Friday Party and the New Year's Eve Party be left open to discussion.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Michael Antonio Oliveri is still looking for somebody to share his room at the Darkover Con.
Jack Heneghan announced that he has a job as a systems engineer at MCI, so he's moved to Springhill Lake.
Michael Harris noted that his birthday is on November 5th, not the 4th as listed in the current WSFA Journal. The gang did a rendition of "Happy Birthday". Also, he's now teaching at George Mason University in the Division of Continuing Education; the course is "Quantitative Methods for Logistics".
Bob Oliver related that he got a telephone call from Billie Grey. She's still looking for a non-smoking, cat-tolerant roommate. If interested, please see Bob for details.
Mike Walsh is still selling books. He also has an address for "Penguin Lust" tee-shirts if anybody's interested.
Brian Lewis reports that if anyone would like to take a course in computer languages, see him.
Rich Kolker brought his receipt book and is selling memberships to Brave New Con.
Lee Smoire reported that there will be a poker game after the meeting. Also, she has flyers on Tele-Saver; if you're interested, see her.
Bob Oliver reminded everyone that next weekend, November 10-12 is the World's Longest Dead Dog Party; no convention, just the party. Price is $3.00 at the Best Western in College Park.
Eva Chalker says that if her son David comes up and asks you for "Beer" he means ROOT BEER. (Sure he does, Eva!)

Speaking for Doll Gilliland, Beverly Brandt reminded the club that:

The First Friday meeting in December will be at the Olivers' house, because
The Third Friday meeting, on December 16th, is also the Tree Trim Party which will, as usual, be at the Gillilands' abode. Please bring an ornament for the tree.
The Solstice Dinner, on December 17th, will also be at the Gillilands'. Please get in touch with Doll before or at the next meeting to discuss what you should bring.

DISCLAVE '84: Chairwoman Jane Wagner said that there would be no formal meeting, but she'd be talking to various people tonight.

OLD BUSINESS:

Alan Huff and his roommates agreed to host the New Year's Eve Party. If the weather is not inclement (huh?), Alan says he'll light up the grill but he refuses to play chef. Maps will be provided at the next meeting.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Beverly Brandt noted that: a) she's still selling Disclave memberships; b) On Saturday, November 5th, WSFAn Mark White married Loretta Mae Oakley; and 3) Alexis Gilliland has a new book out, "The End of the Empire", and so does Somtow Sucharitkul, "The Aquiliad".
Rosa Oliver announced that in place of the usual munchies, she has the annual Bob Oliver Birthday Cake. A solemn, sonorous "Happy Birthday" was sung to Mr. Oliver.
Wayne Dionne relayed the information that he has a sofa bed he wants to get rid of. If you can get a truck to his house, it's yours. (Now that's a Good Deal!)
Brian Lewis asked if anyone knows of an available job in the computer field; he's job hunting.
Wayne and Joanna Dionne are also looking for a boarder for their new home. The bedroom has an adjoining bathroom; the rates are reasonable.
Beverly Brandt informed the club that a draft of the new Address List and a birthday list were both available. Everyone should check to see if their address, telephone number and birthdate are listed correctly. If not on either list, please write in the missing information.
Suzi Koon is selling charity raffle tickets; price is $1.00. First Prize: Portable TV with radio and a cassette recorder; Second Prize: $50.00; Third Prize: Dinner for two; Separate Drawing: Ceramic Christmas Tree.
