Sam's right: we were having problems for some time before that last
Disclave, which is part of the reason that I started this conversation.
People piggybacking off of the con, showing up to do their own thing
(and it wasn't just the ASB folks doing that) had become a problem.  Not
because of what they were doing, but because they weren't there for the
convention.  The heavy drinking was cut back somewhat when we switched
from cheap beer to microbrews but there were still a lot of people who
showed up just to party.

But the biggest problems, as I recall them, were apathy, a lack of
volunteers and sprawl.  No one particularly cared about the convention,
we just kept doing it.  And then it was gone.

Would it be possible to separate the report on that meeting out from the
rest of the Journal and into plain text?  It's relevant, and I'd like to
have a hard copy without having to print out the whole thing.
