Years and years ago, I attended a Star Trek con in Seattle with my first
husband. As we stood in line for tickets, this woman walks up and says, "I
know what a star is, but what's a trek?"

About 10 years ago when I was seeing the book buyer for the Musem of Fine =
Arts in Boston, she was looking through the U of Pennsylvania Press =
catalog and with puzzlement read the copy for Camile Bacon-Smith's book on =
women and Trek fandom called "Enterprising Women."

She turns to me and asks: "What's Star Trek?"
