About a year ago, someone gave me a 12-pack of Pepsi left over from an event
at another house. The last can was used up in Dec. or Jan. Meanwhile, every
3rd Friday I put a couple of cans of Pepsi in the sugar-soda tub, and almost
every 3rd Saturday I put the Pepsi back in the garage. Each time Pepsi was
consumed, it was because there was no Coke left. I think Covert Beach
prefers Pepsi, but he has pretty much gafiated. Karl and I drink only diet
soda (with the exception of Karl's occasional indulgence in ginger beer; his
poison of choice is Tab), so we don't drink leftover Pepsi. So to have Pepsi
available for the rare person who prefers it involves:

1. Bring Pepsi from garage and put in bucket.
2. Take Pepsi out of ice water and dry overnight.
3. Put Pepsi back onto shelf in garage where it takes up space till next
month.

...and, no doubt, listen to some clod complain that there's no more Coke,
just Pepsi!

My point, which I may not have stated very well last night, is that when I
bust my butt (and the Gillilands bust theirs) to host WSFA, taking
nit-picking potshots at the hosts' hospitality is out of line. Particularly
in light of WSFA's diminished financial situation, where food is provided by
the members (by bringing it or putting money in the hat) and drinks are down
to soda, for which I have chosen not to charge WSFA because depositing a
small check is more trouble than it's worth to me.

And I haven't even mentioned cleanup.

Hold on a minute. *My* manners are not at issue. The simple fact is that,
at
roughly annual intervals, I *have* made polite inquiries and suggestions --
almost always to Alexis, who probably recalls them -- and on each occasion I
was
told that WSFA chooses Coke over Pepsi. And I have had a Diet Coke without
complaint. (Last lst Friday meeting even those disappeared. I suspect that
more and more people are switching from sugared to diet/non-sugared sodas.)

It's a rare meeting when Alexis and I don't talk food -- as I have also on
occasion with the Lynches -- and I take modest pride in having suggested
curry
powder to Alexis for his deviled eggs.

If it mattered That Much to me, I'd *bring* a Diet Pepsi -- I normally do
provide my own at writers' group meetings and other informal functions I
attend. I brought this up on this list *solely* after Erica made the
statement
that WSFA won't drink Pepsi products, to offer myself as a counter-example.
