Steve Smith mentioned George O. Smith (any relation? ;)) and reminded me of
my one and only interaction with that personage.

It was at my first convention, Paracon I, in 1978. I somehow ended up
sitting next to him during the showing of "Hardware Wars" and a few blooper
reel type things. Mr. Smith put his arm around me and groped my breast. I
shifted in my seat so that continuation of this activity was impossible and
enjoyed the rest of the show. Later I learned that Smith's death dealt a
mortal blow to one Philadelphia fan's love life; his modus operandi was to
discreetly trail Smith at conventions and rescue and reassure fair maidens
who caught Smith's eye and hand.

On the other hand (so to speak), I welcomed a hug from Isaac Asimov, who
said as he hugged me, "I love it when I can't feel any bones!" A female
friend of mine said that Asimov complemented her by saying, "I love it when
I can feel the bones!" Now there's a gentleman.
