Still, it's not far off the truth to say that the roughness of the earth,
to scale, is comparable to that of a billiard ball, especially if the
billiard ball is scarred from use.  It would be safe to say that the
roughness of a stitched leather baseball is greater, to scale, than that
of the earth.  Also, the stitching on a baseball is suggestive of the
great mountain ranges, such as the Andes/Rockies chain, which stretches
over a distance equivalent to about a third of the circumference of the
earth.
