Maryland never seceded. An unauthorize= d group of legislators left Annapolis attempting to convene an illegal secession convention but they were arrested by Major General Benjamin Franklin Butler to prevent the proposed unconstitutional act. He was in a bad mood because secessionists had rioted in Baltimore and fired on = Federal troops while they were passing peacefully thru the United States state of Maryland on legitimate business. Which is why they didn't secede. _________________________________________________________________
