Makes sense geographically and politically. The proposed New Jersey
city of Metropolis (1875) would have included Staten Island.

Technically Staten Island is Richmond County (and Brooklyn is Kings =
County).

Anyway, I believe at one point the inhabitants of Staten Island were =
making noises about joining NJ.

And don't forget the Staten Island secession movement.
I could be wrong, but I think the NY state
legislature passed an act in the mid 1990s that allows
S.I. to leave NYC.
