Actually, for quite a long time after the civil war it was common for
textbook publishers to put out different Northern and Southern versions of
their texts.  And even today the Southern view gets included in order to
sell to the state adoption states (where a state committee decides on the
books instead of letting individual districts decide) that include TX and
FL.
