I'll use it in a sentence: I was croggled yesterday when one of the swimming instructors at Fairland Aquatic Center did not speak English well enough to tell me whether Lydia was in his class; she had gone missing after watching a safety video, while I had been water walking. -----Original Message----- From: Ted White [mailto:tedwhite at compusnet.com] Sent: Friday, April 12, 2002 5:31 PM To: WSFA members Subject: [WSFA] Re: Netiquette lee gilliland wrote: > Wsfa list netiquette > > [...] > > GAFIA - getting away from it all This of course is a fannish acronym, coined in the '40s. There is also FAFIA (forced away from it all -- once used by those who had just been drafted). But in each case they have become words -- as in "gafia, gafiate, gafiated," etc. Two other fannish acronyms: FIJAGH (Fandom Is Just A Ghoddamned Hobby) FIAWOL (Fandom Is A Way Of Life). --Ted White
