I've had fairly poor success trying to reformat 3.5" disks that were 8-10
years old with stuff written on them.  They seem to be readable, but when
you try a full format to reuse them, the failure rate is 40-50%.  OTOH,
it's getting to be a pretty rare experience to save anything to a floppy
anymore.
