I knew him well in his early years -- I bought his second story after he sold his first to Harlan and we were both part of the Haldemans' early '70s Guilford Writers Conferences -- and about all I can say is that he "had been ill" for as long as I'd known him and I'm amazed he lasted this long. --Ted White
