My first thought, as usual, is >that this year's Capclave committee *simply didn't know* there was an issue >there to consider; just didn't know there were other cons within travelling >distance, such as Ditto, or that it was important to have a different date." You quoted earlier: "Alas, CapClave decided to happen in 2002 the same weekend in Ditto, a conjunction of cons that will force some Ditto attendees who like CapClave to choose between Ditto and CapClave. Catherine Crockett and I both emailed CapClave before Corflu in February, aware that CapClave and Ditto were considering the same time of year. We explained if we knew CapClave's date that Ditto likely would plump for a different weekend. No response. And of course CapClave ended up being the same weekend as Ditto. *sigh* "/\/\urray "Murray Moore"" I wonder who in the world they wrote to? I would have been more than willing to discuss dates with Ditto and am certain that Mike would have been as well, thus most likely avoiding conflict. And Capclave, as such, didn't *have* an address until quite recently. Keith, could you look through your mail as WSFA webmaster and see if you got anything? Ted, I appreciate that you're passing these along, since I don't know what list you're getting them from, nor if anyone else here is on it. And I'm glad that you know the situation on this end -- you certainly saw enough of the "I'll tell people a date just as soon as I've gotten signatures from both the hotel and the chair, okay?" messages -- and have thus explained it. Or at least that part, since where the heck they sent messages isn't something that can be explained yet. It would be nice to have the chance to point out that yes, of course we know that it's important not to overlap with other conventions and tried rather hard to avoid doing so. Still, I may have missed the fact that Ditto is nearby this year; where is it? I'm borrowing a computer at the moment and so don't have my usual bookmarks to work with, much less a way of joining another list to see what confusion is fermenting there. Elspeth
