Alternate outcomes to the Battle of Gettysburg leading to disaster?
Been done.
Interestingly, I read an article in a recent collection _Alternate
Gettysburgs_ stating that a Confederate victory at Gettysburg would not
actually have accomplished much because the Army of Northern Virginia would
have been too exhausted to exploit the victory, and because the United
States would simply have raised and equipped another army.

>From "Publisher's Lunch" email service about publishing deals made:

"Newt Gingrich and William Forstchen's Civil War novels GETTYSBURG
and GRANT COMES EAST, exploring what might have happened if
General Robert E. Lee and the Army of Northern Virginia had won the
battle, to Pete Wolverton and Thomas Dune for Thomas Dunne Books/St.
Martin's, by Jillian Manus at Manus and Associates. "

Considering the disaster of their first collaboration and how it nearly =
destroyed Baen Books one wonders what sort of advance they received. =
$1.00? Or maybe they're paying the publisher?
