	The prize in this department still goes to Tom Clancy's _The Bear
and the Dragon_.  The first 800 pages are IMHO unnecessary.

Actually, I think Mieville's editor is the one on
drugs.  How else could he allow Perdido Street Station
to be released at 749 pages?!  The book doesn't start
to get interesting (imho) until around page 330.
