Well, at least some people won't be using theirs any more.
I am currently working on an alternate history in which a number
of... ah, how do I describe this politely?... in which a number of religious
prophecies all come true in the same timeline without violating the usual
rules of alternate history. (Thank you, L. Sprague de Camp.) So, that
timeline includes the Millenium (1881), the end of the world (Jehovah's
Witnesses, 1914), the Second Coming (1936), the End of the World
(pyramidiot, 1953), the rising of Lemuria (1980), the end of the world
(Mayan, 2012), and the End Times (2030-33) culminating in the Rapture
(2033).

Observed on a car bumper:

"Come The Rapture - May I Have Your Car?"
