Indeed. . .having resisted the blandishments of the industry for several
years now, I'm more or less aware of the general setup.  In this instance,
Voicestream offers two reasonably good phones for free, and a number of
others at various charges and rebates.  What's neat about this particular
opportunity is that one can combine rebates from Amazon and Voicestream on
some of the more expensive models, in one case getting the phone for free,
and in others getting extra money back.

Their plans are finally down to something I'm willing to spring
for.  $20/month for a really low number of peak period minutes, 8+ hours of
weekends per month--all with free long distance and all nation-wide:  no
roaming fees anywhere.  Quality of service, of course, is where you find
it, as witness the other notes on this thread.
