Your message was forwarded to a list that I'm on, including the
suggestion of meeting on

Since ConJosé, this year's Worldcon, starts on August 28th and ends on
September 2nd many of us are going to be in the process of leaving town,
returning to town, working on the convention, or recovering. And it's a
long way to San Jose. I fully support the idea of regional cooperation
and coalition, and am part of just such a local effort in the Baltimore
and Washington, DC area. The idea of expanding this to encompass the
entire Northeast is a good one. But the end of August and beginning of
September is a really lousy time for conrunners.

Perhaps a better way of doing the timing would be to check the
convention calendars so as not to conflict, or even to find a centrally
located convention that might be willing to act as host. Philcon is,
IIRC, in December this year and while that may be later than you'd
planned on getting things going is central to the Boston - Washington
corridor. The delay could also allow time to set up a listserve for
people who are interested, for people to discuss what we want to talk
about at such a meeting, and the other odds and ends of gathering people
together.

My apologies is this response comes off as rude in any way; I was just
doing a final pass of my email before going to bed. Unfortunately it
means that I'm not as alert as I'd prefer to be but I wanted to reply
while things were fresh in my mind. And I'm not speaking for any group,
organization, or convention, just as someone who cares about conventions
and enjoys working on them. Let me know if there's anything useful that
I might do, although I hope that it might be after the first week in
September.

Sincerely,

Elspeth Kovar
