Ron Reply-To: WSFA members <WSFAlist at keithlynch.net> >From the PublishersWeekly Newsline for today: Crossing a Bridge: Galaxy Press Is Scientology Publisher's Spinoff Anyone who has stepped within a few hundred feet of the Bridge Publications exhibit at BEA probably knows more than they ever thought they would about the Scientology movement and its publishing program. Well, now you'll have two chances to acquire some accidental wisdom. The house responsible for Battlefield Earth and all literary licenses asociated with L. Ron Hubbard has spun off a new company to handle fiction: Galaxy Press, comprised of eight employees who worked on the fiction line at Bridge. Galaxy will be run by John Goodwin, who once served as v-p, public relations for Bridge. While the company has not hired any additional personnel, Galaxy spokesperson Elise Toth says that because of the spin-off, "the concentration in marketing, publicity and sales efforts can greatly increase for both Mr. Hubbard's fiction and non-fiction work." Toth says Hubbard has more than 20 works of fiction in print, but has written over 250. The new firm, she says, "will publish a lot more of these books." Is everyone clear on this? mjw
