After having fun for a while and seeing about half the zoo, they got overexcited and started running. Lydia tripped over an irregularity in the walkway, fell, and smashed her right arm sideways into a stone wall. She broke a bone down near the wrist; the doctor said it's the best kind of fracture to have! It is, of course, her right arm. Right now she's in a splint and will get a more durable cast tomorrow and I guess we'll find out how long it will be on; I imagine until well after school starts. We hope it's waterproof because we're going to the beach next week! And after that Lydia will spend a few days with her cousins and go to King's Dominion, where of course there is a water park. So all is more or less okay. Lydia says it hurts, but not enough to convince her to voluntarily take Advil for it. You have my permission to scare kids with her story when they run when they shouldn't! FYI, the Howard County hospital has a new ER in the new wing, with a separate pediatric ER. There was no waiting! Even with getting x-rays we were in and out in less than an hour! What with one thing and another, we pulled her out of her last 2-week session of camp, so I'll have a cranky injured kid moping around till we leave on Wednesday. Essentially, we would have been spending $200 for two days of camp; not cost-effective! See some of y'all in San Jose... Erica
