We saw the orthopedist on Friday. After injecting Xylocaine, the doc set the
more broken of the bones; the other was just bent a bit. It made this gross
popping sound that we all heard. Lydia now has a remarkably thin and
light-weight cast, a water-setting plastic bandage over layers of cotton and
gauze. She was a real trouper through the whole thing. It's barely slowing
her down now; we went to the Montgomery County Fair Friday night and there
was only one ride she couldn't go on of those we tried. Today we did stuff
around the house and ran errands and she's hardly hampered at all. She gets
a new set of x-rays on the 24th and sees the doc again on the 26th. No idea
yet how long it will be on.

The beach will be a challenge, trying to keep the cast dry! Any bright ideas
from the rocket scientists out there?
