Here are a couple of my helpful hints for packing light(er).

Disposable reading. Save up any magazines you get that you don't save
afterward and read them early in your trip. Then leave them behind. If there
are books you'd like to reread, pick up an extra copy at a used book store
or sale and read and discard as above. I'm planning on doing that with Dune
over the next few weeks.

Disposable clothing. Instead of immediately throwing out underwear and socks
(or even t-shirts) that are past their prime, pack them and toss them as you
wear them. We did this when we went to Aussicon in 1999 and it worked very
well.

There are whole books about packing light. These are my favorites for easing
the eventual load and making room for the biiks and t-shirts I want to bring
back. Anybody else have ideas?
