Ron Kean and others have correctly pointed out that the line between
fiction and nonfiction is often difficult to distiniguish, sometimes
amusingly so, sometimes not so amusingly. My original concern was the
potential exclusion of nonfiction such as astronomy and other space science.
Some fans really don't like bothering with the science that underlies the
fiction and would exclude it if possible. I myself enjoy the science and
want to insure that there is a place for reality within fandom. (Cue Mike
Walsh for a quip about fans and reality.)
Concerning politics, I think that Ron has the right approach:
Awareness of other people's sensibilities, trust in our esteemed
editor-cum-webmaster, and a willingness to recognize other interests.
