I'm very sorry to tell you that we lost Charles Sheffield this morning. His
wife, Nancy Kress, was with him until the end.
Charles was a brilliant, charming person, who basically personified
everything you'd imagine in a true gentleman and want in a friend.
If you have a copy of PACKING FRACTION, you might want to reread his story.
It was the first piece of fiction I ever bought as an editor. I'll never
forget how excited and eager Charles was to help me, or how much he believed
in science and science fiction as a way to open the minds of young people.
He'll not be replaced. I know he'll be remembered.
Julie
