If there is concern that someone might attend a confliciting event when they might otherwise have attended a club event, the conflict could be explicitly noted in the announcement of the conflicting event, and then the reader could make a more fully informed decision. Of course if the listing is strictly chronological, conflicts should be apparent to those scanning the list even without explicitly noting them. And location matters - it might be much easier for a particular individual to attend a nearby event over a distant club-related event.
