I don't think there should be a outright blackout on announcing
conflicting events.  If there is concern that someone might attend a
confliciting event when they might otherwise have attended a club event,
the conflict could be explicitly noted in the announcement of the
conflicting event, and then the reader could make a more fully informed
decision.  Of course if the listing is strictly chronological, conflicts
should be apparent to those scanning the list even without explicitly
noting them.  And location matters - it might be much easier for a
particular individual to attend a nearby event over a distant
club-related event.
