Jackson did make some alterations, primarily bringing the
Arwen-Aragorn romance into the foreground and hinting at an Eowyn-Aragorn
romance. However, I believe that he was basically true to the source (as
opposed to some of Heinlein's interpreters). At the standard page-to-screen
ratio, an accurate rendering of Professor Tolkien's epic would require at
least 40 hours to run. Bring lots of elven waybread.

Saw the flick Saturday night at the Senator here in Baltimore.

Fastest 3 hours I ever sat through . . .

It's been *mumble* *mumble* decades since I've read LOTR, but I gather =
Jackson has made some alterations to Tolkien's storyline. Nonetheless, =
the two films are pretty much how I remember/visualize LOTR.

So . . . 2004 will see the Ultra-Double Plus Good-Mega-SuperDuper-HolyCow =
DVD LOTR Director's Ever So Extended Version? What a way to kill a =
weekend . . .
