As of a few minutes ago it was still in the mid-30s here. I did some
shopping this afternoon and found all the main streets to be bare pavement
(albeit with occasional right lanes missing), but local neighborhood
streets are still snowy, if plowed. Worst are the shopping center parking
lots, most of them never plowed but driven-in and badly rutted with ice and
slush. Foolish drivers were stuck, spinning their wheels impotently in
several lots I navigated without difficulty (with a '94 Honda Accord).

When I returned here I found that in my absense the city had plowed out my
driveway (theoretically it's a truncated part of 11th St) -- but shoved all
the snow into the area where I normally park (while giving my
across-the-drive neighbors access). Good thing I have my spot on the
street. Late this afternoon they thoroughly plowed out the Tuckahoe-11th
St intersection, dumping a mountain of snow on a portion of the sidewalk
I'd shoveled out (as required by law). They assured me the snow would be
trucked away tomorrow. I'm not sure I believe that, but I want to.
