I figured there were restrooms in the Metro stations for the people who
work there.  However, I think their definition of "emergency" does not
include "going to make a smelly mess on the platform".  I've never
talked to anybody who actually used one.

the article you saw?  Interesting discussion of a high-tech toilet,
coming soon to the Huntington Metro station.  There's also a link to an
activism site for public restroom access.

Note that using an elevator in a downtown Metro station generally
involves putting the olifactory senses into neutral.
