As far as I know, has ever previously attended a WSFA meeting on Barsoom. Therefore, if no one attends a First Friday meeting on Barsoom, the logical conditions are satisfied and my plan is successful. Anyway, I'm starting a new tradiation: WSFA meets on exotic planets for the meeting closest to the annual observance of Edgar Rice Burroughs' birthday, 1 September. As far as transportation between Toronto and Barsoom go, John Carter and Ulysess Paxton teleported in effectively no time. Sam Lubell is holding a review of how this is done. Sorry, it doesn't work that way. To cause our September 5th meeting to be on Barsoom, you would have to get the people to attend who only attend when we meet on Edgar Rice Burrough's fictional version of Mars, and who never attend when we meet elsewhere. I don't have statistics on any such meetings, so it's anyone's guess who that would be. Also, that's a little too soon after the Worldcon. Some WSFAns may be unable to get from Toronto, which is on Earth, to Mars in just four days. Though it is noteworthy that a week earlier, on August 27th, that planet is closer to ours than it has been in SEVENTY THREE THOUSAND YEARS. Can this be a mere coincidence? (Hint: Yes.) Remember, you heard it here first (unless you heard it somewhere else earlier). -- Keith F. Lynch - kfl at keithlynch.net -
