Mike suggested that simple popularity of a given book might be an important factor. If someone is likely to object to a given book, he is certainly more likely to hear about and be offended the popular Mr. Potter than a similar book that only sold 50 copies worldwide. However, the popularity of Tolkien's work suggests that simple name recognition is not the answer, tho. Steve provided a website that lists Tolkien as among works burned by a particular church, but objections to Tolkien seem to be far fewer than the objections to Rowling. Other comments? And does anyone have any insight into how Mr. Potter and Professor Tolkien are received outside Europe and the Americas (i.e. the predominantly non-Christian world)?
