Actually, I'll just consider that a rhetorical question, and answer the
more interesting version:

These folks are a couple of miles south of  I-70 which runs between
Baltimore and Frederick, MD.  Run by a retired mathematician and his wife,
it's a fantastic place.  If you're willing to consider Rockville and
Manassas, Books with a Past is in your range.  Pretty much restricted to
automobile drivers, except maybe for Keith.  But it's probably 15-20 miles
north of the Glenmont Metro stop up Georgia Ave.

Another really nice shop, kind of hard to find.  They're in the Shady Grove
Center, which takes up the north west quadrant of the intersection of
Gaither Road and Shady Grove road.  What you need to do is drive up Gaither
Road to the western-most entrance, all the way down the back side, take a
right at the dumpster, and drive downhill into the hidden courtyard.  Well
worth the effort.  Not an unreasonable walk or easy bike ride from the
Shady Grove Metro, but the traffic in the area is horrendous.

These are two of my favorite places in the entire world.  If this country
had "National Treaures," they would belong there.
