Today (Wednesday April 30) was Baskin Robbins' free scoop day, 6 pm to 10
pm. I stopped by the Baskin Robbins in Congressional Plaza in Rockville
at 6:30, and the line snaking outside Baskin Robbins' door was about 100
feet long. I did some grocery shopping and returned to look at the line
at 7:30 pm. It was somewhat longer than before, and I counted about 70
people in the line outside the door, mostly two abreast. I concluded
that standing in a line that long was just not worth a free ice cream
cone. There must be some law of economics illustrated thereby, e.g.
there is no such thing as a free ice cream cone.

The ice cream store had posted a crier outside the door, and the crier
was announcing that anyone who wished to buy something could bypass the
long line, and also get a free scoop.
