43 more moons orbiting Jupiter

David Perlman, Chronicle Science Editor

A report by Scott S. Sheppard, 27, a graduate student at the University
of Hawaii, published in the journal Nature today announces his discovery
of 23 new moons around the giant planet. In a telephone interview
Thursday, Sheppard told The Chronicle that since he wrote the report
last December he has found another 20 moons.

With those discoveries a total of 80 satellites are now known to orbit
the giant gas planet.
