The unavoidable cost of staying awake much after 1 am is not being able
to awake fully rested at a 'normal' time the next day. People need 6 to
8 hours of sleep per 24 hour cycle, and trying to get by with less than
that is probably not worth it, to most people. If a number of people
together want to rotate their sleep/waking phase so that they go to sleep
at 5 am and awake around noon, that's fine, but they will still need the
recommended 6 to 8 hours of sleep per 24 hours. People with 'day jobs'
will probably not want to slide their sleep cycle much.
