The reported 'submission' date might actually have been the date on which
corrections were finalized. The manuscript might already have been
converted to a data file and formatted for printing and proofread, and
gone thru one or more rounds of galley proofing, so the last minute
changes might be doable in less than a day, and printing out final galley
proofs might take only a couple of hours with a computer and a fast
printer. The proofs could be checked by a team. Perhaps Clancy's books
are so important that printing and binding schedules are pre-empted to
rush the books to market.
