One page of text in a hardcover novel might require 5 KB of data in a
text file or word processor file format. So a 1.44 MB floppy could hold
about 288 pages at that rate. With data compression such as WinZip, the
floppy might hold as much as three times as much text as compared to not
using compression. A 700 MB data CD could hold an astounding 140,000
pages of text at 5 KB per page, without compression.
