Excuse me? I lurk, yet still I live. I too remember both SotWJ and Dave
Halterman. Barry and I sublet a room from him in the house on Geranium
Street, NW for about 6 months in 1973. He rented other bedrooms to Army
enlisted folks (both sexes), as the house was just a few blocks from Walter
Reed.

I learned a style of cooking from him I have lived to regret (Open fridge,
take out stick of butter, toss it into whatever you're cooking, serve). He
was also responsible for the only taste of Chateau D'Yquem I ever had.

There were occasional WSFA and SCA events. At one, Dave and I cooked a
Chinese medieval feast for about 20 SCA members to qualify for our Master
Cook status. However, no one ever volunteered to clean the house. We were
all forced to leave when the landlord decided to renovate and get some less
disreputable tenants.
