We (Newtons) did the same sort of thing. . .had enough for taxi fare to the
airport, not quite enough for lunch, so covered lunch with a combination of
our remaining CDN $ and a few bucks on VISA.  That left us with a small
handful of coinage, including a toonie, which I wanted for a souvenir
anyway.  I noticed that the toonies seemed to come in change a lot more
often the the more colorful loonies.  Must mean something. .  .always
seemed to have a pocket full of quarters, dimes, and the occasional toonie
or loonie.
