However Nicki's discussion ideas are good issues to be tackled once we complete the current Capclave. What is the club trying to accomplish by hosting a Capclave, is Capclave meeting our goals, and what alternate formats would serve our goals as well as or better than what we do now? -----Original Message----- From: N Lynch [mailto:sfbookfan at yahoo.com] Sent: Monday, November 17, 2003 11:59 AM To: WSFA members Subject: [WSFA] Re: hotels and reservations Hi all, This may be a radical idea, but with the economy the way it is - bad - and people out of work, not traveling, etc. has anyone thought about future Capclaves NOT being weekend events? What is the purpose of the club having an event such as Capclave? (This is a discussion question.) Could we achieve the same objectives by holding one day events? (Again, discussion.) If getting non-locals, who seem to be the ones most likely to get a hotel room, to attend is getting to be too difficult, would it be possible to drop back and do events for the local area cost effectively for a few years? We could host several small events in different locations. Yes, this would mean no parties (unless individuals want to sponsor one) and not as much socialization, but these weekend events are a major drain on the treasury in a time when we really can't afford it. Please consider this question carefully.
