In case that sounded too much like sarcasm, I'll report that the table
project is going well. Discouraging in some ways, since the first step is
to make all of it as bad as the worst parts of it, but it's beginning to
look properly desiccated. Unfortunately this means that I can now see how
much varnish is still down in the pores of the wood despite years of wear
and may have to use something harsher than denatured alcohol.

In the spirit of which, might anyone have a fairly solid metal box, about
10 inches or so high, lying around that they can spare? What I really want
is the box that the milk-man used for deliveries when I was a child, which
was outside the back door of a house we haven't owned in years. Having a
turpentine and beeswax mixture on hand was one thing, but I'm now keeping
enough non-paper flammables in my apartment that all those warning about
spontaneous combustion are beginning to make me twitchy and would sleep
better knowing that any such was more contained than just under the kitchen
sink.

I promise to spare people further ramblings about this project -

Elspeth
