Mike Walsh says that we can establish that we are in an alternate
universe if all the streets in Arlington are straight. I have read that
Pierre L'Enfant was not finished drafting his plan of Washington when the
commissioners confiscated his work and started building. So our national
capital is a first draft.
The First Congress actually approved a plan to have 2 capitals, one
above Trenton, NJ and the second in Georgetown, MD. Then they adopted a
plan to have a single capital located in what is now Mechanicsburg, PA.
Finally, they settled on the present location.
