I took Nikki's ticket and went to look at the
Montgomery County Fair. Beautiful weather Saturday. I
had a blast. Saw a bunch of Nikki's quilts and a
beautiful Elizabethian dress that had taken Grand Prize
for all sewn goods. There were a lot of quilts. All sizes
and shapes. Nikki had an exquisite minature with tiny
little squares, and there were big ones hanging up.
Quilts actually seem to be a sensible hobby compared to
some of the other things: bread baking, the bread was
turning green, smocking, and bobbin lace.
The old timers display had a running one cylinder gas
engine from 1920's and a working windmill and a hand
powered corn grinder, suitable for chicken feed. The
cows, and goats and chickens and pigs were intersting too.
There was one 2000 lb Brahma bull at the Old MacDonald
Farm exhibit, which would let me rub his neck, and would
nuzzle my hand.
There was far too much food at a reasonable price.
The ice cream cones were only $1.25, and the Dining Hall
had a fried chicken supper run by a Church group which had
perfect chicken, crispy and moist. Next time I go I'll
have to bring less money for food.
