I think you have it backwards. I don't consider SF people to be subpar. I consider everyone to be 'that guy.'
When it comes to authority -- either academic, professional, or governmental -- I'm not necessarily impressed.

Chalk it up to having an uber-successfuly sister. To me, she's not the professor of economics who serves on
the EPA's scientific advisory board -- she's the girl who listened to Ted Nugent records in her bedroom when
she was 16.

(and, for the record, so did I, though I was the tender age of 8)
