Rebecca does bring up a good point - putting aside some amount of money
in the event of say, a Capclave meltdown or the such (my words, not
hers)

That said, and I believe I've mentioned this before, we really should
be thinking about ways to make the best use of the WFC surplus.
Ernest's plan to publish a collection of DC themed stories under the
WSFA Press imprint is a good idea. It will raise the profile of the
club. And ideally reflect well enough on us that we may get a few new
folks into WSFA and maybe even have then try out Capclave in the next
few years.

One of the things I want to do is to promote Capclave 2005 at World
Fantasy this year. As those of you who attended/worked on it last year
observed, there's a lot of professional writers and editors in
attendence. And our GoH next year, Howard Waldrop (who is a past WFC
GoH, is held in high estem by these folks. & with a limited run Waldrop
booklet available only with a Capclave 2005 membership, why we should
get some number of folks joining just for the booklet, that we'll have
mail to 'em.

So tonight I'll be asking the club to dip into the WFC surplus and fund
Capclave 2005 a bit early.

& yes, I'm a believer in doing pro-active things with the surplus.
