I've always found that glass lenses were noticeably
more expensive than plastic. It also took longer to have
the lenses made. The lenses can get very expensive with
scratch resistant coatings and thin, high refractive
glass.
My optician was very vehement about glass lenses being
less safe. I thought he might have heard horror stories
from others in his field, so I bowed to his judgement.
